Wonton soup

Wonton Soup is a classic Chinese dish known worldwide. Here is how you could prepare a version with an Italian twist:

Ingredients

  • For the wontons:
    • 200 g of ground pork
    • 100 g of shrimps, chopped
    • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon of sugar
    • A handful of chopped spring onions
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Wonton wrappers, ready to use
  • For the broth:
    • 1.5 liters of chicken broth
    • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
    • 2 cm of fresh ginger, sliced
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for an Italian finish

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimps, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, chopped spring onions, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the wonton filling.
  2. Take a wonton wrapper and place a heaping teaspoon of filling in the center. Wet the edges with water and fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal. For a more artistic touch, you can pinch the edges to create pleats.
  3. Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a large pot. Add the garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, and for a unique note, a stream of extra virgin olive oil.
  4. Reduce to a simmer and cook the wontons for about 5-8 minutes, or until they float to the surface and the dough is cooked.
  5. Serve the Wonton Soup hot, garnished with fresh chopped spring onions and, if you wish, a handful of finely chopped leafy green vegetables for a touch of color and freshness.

Remember that wonton wrappers can also be homemade with a dough of flour and water if not available ready to use. Additionally, you can add vegetables or other herbs to your Wonton Soup to enhance the flavor according to your tastes. Enjoy your meal!
