Yogurt Dough for a Thousand Desserts

The yogurt dough is versatile and ideal for making many soft and moist desserts. Here’s a basic recipe that you can use as a starting point for cakes, muffins, and other treats.

Ingredients

  • 1 pot of natural yogurt (125 g, which will also act as a measuring cup)
  • 3 pots of flour
  • 2 pots of sugar
  • 1/2 pot of seed oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Flavoring to taste (grated lemon peel, vanilla extract, etc.)

Preparation

  1. Take a large bowl and pour the yogurt into it.
  2. Use the empty yogurt pot as a measuring unit and add the other ingredients to the yogurt: the flour, the sugar, and the seed oil.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt until frothy and light in color.
  4. Fold the beaten eggs into the other ingredients in the bowl and mix with a hand whisk or an electric mixer until you have a smooth and homogeneous mixture.
  5. Add the chosen flavoring and the baking powder, stirring gently until they are well distributed throughout the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into a previously buttered and floured mold.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (356 °F) for about 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the dessert comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, let the dessert cool in the mold for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Trivia

The origins of this dough are closely linked to its convenience and the moist consistency that yogurt gives to desserts. Additionally, the use of yogurt instead of other fats such as butter makes the recipe lighter and suitable for those who are health-conscious. With this dough, you can also experiment by adding fresh or dried fruit, chocolate chips, or create layers with jams or creams to enrich your dessert even further.
