Wine Biscuits

Wine biscuits are a simple and traditional dessert often found in Italian regions. They are made with basic ingredients, and the addition of wine in the dough gives them a unique flavor. Here is a recipe you can try:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of flour
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 100 ml of extra virgin olive oil
  • 100 ml of dry white wine
  • 1 sachet of baking powder
  • Granulated sugar for the coating

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and sugar. Add the baking powder and mix well all the dry ingredients.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the olive oil and white wine.
  4. Knead with your hands until you get a smooth, homogeneous dough. If the mixture is too dry, you can add a little more wine until you reach the desired consistency.
  5. Take small pieces of dough and form small balls, which you will then roll in granulated sugar until completely covered.
  6. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, flattening them slightly to give a flatter shape.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they become lightly golden.
  8. Let cool before serving.

These biscuits are perfect for dipping in wine or tea during an afternoon break, and they keep very well for several days in an airtight container. In some versions, flavors such as anise or grated lemon zest can be added to vary the taste.

Remember that you can always modify the recipe to adapt it to your tastes or to the local traditions of your area!
