The whole wheat orange ciambellone cake is an excellent choice for a healthy and tasty breakfast. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 300 g of whole wheat flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 150 g of brown sugar
  • 120 ml of fresh orange juice
  • The grated zest of 1 orange (untreated)
  • 100 ml of seed oil (or light olive oil)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar (optional, for decoration)

Preparation

  1. Take a bowl and sift the whole wheat flour together with the baking powder.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer or using an electric mixer, whip the eggs with the brown sugar until you get a light and fluffy mixture.
  3. Add the grated orange zest to the mixture of eggs and sugar and mix well.
  4. Fold in the flour (with the baking powder) and the orange juice, starting and ending with the flour. Mix the ingredients until they are well blended.
  5. Pour the oil in a thin stream and continue to mix until you have a smooth batter. Remember to add a pinch of salt.
  6. Prepare a bundt pan by greasing it lightly and dusting with flour or lining it with parchment paper if you prefer.
  7. Pour the batter into the pan and level the surface.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the ciambellone comes out clean.
  9. Let the ciambellone cool before unmolding it.
  10. If desired, before serving, you can dust the surface of the ciambellone with icing sugar.

Fun Facts

The orange ciambellone is a fragrant and tasty twist on the classic ciambellone. The use of whole wheat flour not only enriches the recipe from a nutritional point of view by providing more fiber, but it also gives the cake a distinctive flavor and a slightly more rustic texture.

Enjoy your meal! And if you desire a more “Italian” touch, you might add an Italian orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier to the batter, which will intensify its flavor.
