Waffle

Here is a traditional recipe for making waffles, with an Italian touch that I like to add to give the dish a bit of personality.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder for sweets
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 ml of milk
  • 75 g of melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or grated lemon zest for an Italian touch)

Preparation

  1. Prepare your waffle iron by preheating it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs and add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract or lemon zest.
  4. Combine the liquid ingredients with the dry ones, mixing carefully until you obtain a smooth batter, but without overworking it.
  5. Pour the batter onto the hot waffle iron, close it and cook the waffles until they become golden and crispy.
  6. Serve the hot waffles with your favorite toppings.

The recipe is quite versatile, so you can add chocolate chips to the batter, or pieces of fruit to make everything more delicious. Moreover, a very popular variant in Italy is to add some cocoa powder to the batter for irresistible chocolate waffles.

For a final Italian touch, I suggest serving them with some cream ice cream and a drizzle of maple syrup or honey. Enjoy your meal!
