Vegetable Chips
17/11/2023Vegetable chips are a tasty and relatively simple snack to prepare. Here’s how you can make them:
Ingredients
- Vegetables of your choice (for example: sweet potatoes, beetroots, carrots, zucchini)
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper (optional)
- Spices to taste (for example: paprika, turmeric, thyme)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Wash the vegetables thoroughly and dry them.
- Slice the vegetables thinly, using a mandoline to achieve an even thickness.
- In a large bowl, gently mix the vegetable slices with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, to slightly coat them.
- Season the slices with salt, pepper, and the chosen spices.
- Arrange the vegetable slices on one or more baking trays lined with parchment paper, making sure they do not overlap.
- Bake in the oven for 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the vegetables and the type, flipping them once halfway through the cooking until they are crispy.
- Remove the chips from the oven and let them cool on a rack, so they can stay crispy.
Remember that cooking times can vary greatly depending on the thickness of the vegetables and their water content. Always keep an eye on the chips as they cook to prevent them from burning.
Finally, here’s a fun fact: although the term “chips” is of English origin, many Italian chefs have adopted this preparation, enriching it with Mediterranean spices, such as rosemary and thyme, or adding a dash of balsamic vinegar before baking, for a truly Italian touch. Enjoy your meal!
