Tuna Tartare
17/11/2023Tuna tartare is a fresh and tasty dish, ideal as an appetizer or as a delightful and elegant second course. Here’s how to prepare it with an Italian touch.
Ingredients
- 200 g of extremely fresh tuna fillet
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Chopped chives
- 1 tablespoon of rinsed and chopped capers (optional)
- Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
- A bit of arugula or other greens for garnish
Preparation
-
Start by preparing the tuna, ensuring it is of the highest quality and very fresh, to allow for raw consumption. Cut the tuna fillet into small, even cubes.
-
In a bowl, combine the tuna cubes with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, chopped capers (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix gently to blend the ingredients well.
-
Let the tartare marinate in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes, to absorb the flavors.
-
While the tuna is marinating, toast the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan without adding any oils or seasonings, until they turn golden brown and fragrant.
-
Transfer the tuna tartare onto a serving dish using a round mold to give it a neat shape. Remove the mold and garnish with chopped chives and, if desired, toasted sesame seeds.
-
Finish the dish with a few leaves of arugula or your preferred greens for garnish and to add an extra touch of freshness.
Curiosity
Tuna tartare is a reflection on the simplicity of haute cuisine, where the quality of the ingredients speaks for itself. Bluefin tuna is traditionally highly valued in Italy, especially in coastal regions, where it is found fresh and of excellent quality. You can pair this dish with a glass of fresh and light white wine, such as Vermentino or Sauvignon, which will complete the tasting experience without overwhelming the delicate flavor of the tuna.
Remember to consume raw fish only if you are sure of its freshness and origin, and always respect hygienic standards in its preparation. Enjoy your meal!
