Tuna in a pistachio crust

Tuna in a pistachio crust is a simple yet very tasty dish. Here are the ingredients and instructions to make it:

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh tuna steaks (about 150-200g each)
  • 100g of unsalted shelled pistachios
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon (optional)
  • Aromatic herbs (such as thyme or rosemary, optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Finely chop the pistachios in a mixer or with a knife until they are coarsely ground.
  3. In a bowl, mix the pistachio crumbs with a pinch of salt, pepper and if desired, add the grated lemon zest and chopped aromatic herbs for a more aromatic flavor.
  4. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels and lightly brush them with extra virgin olive oil on both sides.
  5. Place the tuna steaks in the pistachio crumbs, pressing lightly so that the crust adheres well on all sides.
  6. Heat a non-stick pan and add a drizzle of oil. Sear the tuna steaks over high heat for 1-2 minutes per side to create a golden crust.
  7. Transfer the steaks to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the desired degree of doneness is reached. Remember that tuna is best if left somewhat pink inside.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the steaks rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Serve the tuna in a pistachio crust with a light side dish, like a fresh salad or grilled vegetables.

Curiosity

Bluefin tuna is highly appreciated in Mediterranean cuisine for its intense flavor and firm flesh. Coating it with pistachios not only adds crunch and flavor but also a beautiful contrast of colors that makes the dish particularly inviting.
