Tuna Steaks with Caper Sauce

I am pleased to provide you with the recipe for tuna steaks with a delicious caper sauce, a simple yet flavorful dish that tastes of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh tuna steaks (about 150-200 g each)
  • 2 tablespoons of salted capers
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Chopped parsley to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. First of all, rinse the capers under running water to remove the excess salt.

  2. Then prepare the caper sauce. In a frying pan, sauté the garlic cloves with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. When the garlic is golden, remove it and add the capers.

  3. Let the capers fry for a couple of minutes, then turn off the heat and add the chopped parsley and lemon juice. Mix well and check the balance of flavors, adjusting with salt if necessary (remembering that the capers are already salty).

  4. For the tuna steaks, heat a grill or non-stick pan well. Season the tuna steaks with some salt and pepper and a drop of oil.

  5. Cook the tuna on the hot grill (or pan) for about 1-2 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the steaks and the desired degree of doneness. Tuna is best left slightly raw in the center.

  6. Once the steaks are cooked, arrange them on the plates and top with the previously prepared caper sauce.

  7. Serve the tuna steaks with sides of your choice, such as a fresh green salad or grilled vegetables.

Curiosity

Tuna is a fish that is highly valued in Italy, especially on the islands where the fishing of bluefin tuna is a tradition, such as in Sicily and Sardinia. The caper sauce enhances its flavor without overpowering it. In many Italian coastal areas, tuna dishes are often paired with fresh and lively white wines, such as Vermentino or Grillo.
