Tuna Cutlets

Tuna cutlets are a simple yet delicious dish that combines the bold taste of blue fish with the crunchiness of a golden breadcrumb coating. Here’s how to prepare them.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of fresh tuna (about 2 cm thick)
  • 100 g of breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • Flour as needed
  • Salt and pepper as needed
  • Lemon (to serve)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (for frying)

Preparation

  1. Start by lightly beating the tuna slices with a meat tenderizer to make the consistency even and facilitate uniform cooking.
  2. Salt and pepper the tuna slices on both sides.
  3. In a bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt.
  4. Prepare two separate plates: one with flour and one with breadcrumbs.
  5. Lightly flour the tuna slices, one at a time, then dip them in the beaten egg, and finally coat them in the breadcrumbs, making sure the coating sticks well on both sides.
  6. Heat plenty of extra virgin olive oil in a large pan and, once it’s hot, fry the tuna cutlets for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the desired goldenness is achieved.
  7. Drain the cutlets on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve the hot tuna cutlets, perhaps with a squeeze of fresh lemon on top and your favorite salad or grilled vegetables as a side dish.

Trivia

Tuna, besides being flavorful, is very nutritious and rich in Omega-3, which are beneficial for the heart and circulatory system. A crunchy breading is the perfect complement to its tender and juicy meat. When purchasing fresh tuna, look for pieces with a bright red color, a sign of freshness and quality.
