Spaghetti with Tuna and Tomato

Spaghetti with tuna and tomato is a simple and delicious dish, suitable for a quick lunch or dinner. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 320 g of spaghetti
  • 200 g of canned tuna in oil
  • 400 g of tomato pulp or canned peeled tomatoes
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh chopped parsley (optional)

Preparation

  1. Boil a pot of salted water for the spaghetti. When it boils, cook the spaghetti al dente according to the package instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large pan, heat 2-3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and sauté the peeled garlic cloves until golden. If you like a spicy touch, you can also add some red pepper flakes.
  3. Add the well-drained canned tuna to the pan and sauté briefly with the garlic.
  4. Add the tomato pulp or canned peeled tomatoes, lightly crushing them with a spoon. Season with salt and cook over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Drain the al dente spaghetti and transfer them directly to the pan with the tuna and tomato sauce.
  6. Toss them with the sauce for a minute, so that the pasta absorbs the flavors well.
  7. If you wish, turn off the heat and add some fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Serve the spaghetti hot and, if you like, you can finish the dish with a sprinkling of freshly ground black pepper or more chopped parsley.

Curiosity

The dish has its origins in Italian peasant cuisine, where the few available ingredients had to be used wisely to nourish the family. The simplicity and speed of preparation have made this dish popular throughout the country and even abroad.
