Pasta with Tuna and Onions
17/11/2023Pasta with tuna and onions is a simple and tasty dish, perfect for a quick but flavorful meal. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
- 320 g of pasta (spaghetti, penne or your choice of shape)
- 200 g of canned tuna in oil (better if it’s natural)
- 2 medium onions
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste (optional)
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnishing)
- Chili pepper (optional, if you like a bit of spice)
Preparation
-
Start by boiling water for the pasta in a large pot. When the water reaches a boil, salt it and add the pasta, cooking it according to the package instructions to achieve the desired consistency.
-
Meanwhile, peel the onions and slice them thinly. In a large frying pan, heat two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and add the onions with a pinch of salt. Let them fry over medium-low heat until they become translucent and lightly golden. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can stew them by adding a little hot water, being careful not to burn them.
-
Drain the tuna from its preserving oil and coarsely shred it with a fork. Add the tuna to the onions in the pan and mix gently.
-
Drain the pasta al dente, setting aside some of the cooking water. Transfer the pasta to the frying pan with the tuna and onions. If necessary, add a bit of the cooking water to make the sauce creamier.
-
Mix well to flavor the pasta. Adjust the salt and pepper to your taste. If you have chosen to add chili pepper, you can do it now.
-
Serve the hot pasta, garnishing with chopped fresh parsley if you wish for a touch of color and freshness.
This dish is a great example of how, with just a few ingredients and in a short time, it’s possible to prepare a complete and satisfying meal. The onion, after being cooked slowly, will develop a natural sweetness that perfectly complements the robust flavor of the tuna.
