Pasta with Tuna and Onions

Pasta with tuna and onions is a simple and tasty dish, perfect for a quick but flavorful meal. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 320 g of pasta (spaghetti, penne or your choice of shape)
  • 200 g of canned tuna in oil (better if it’s natural)
  • 2 medium onions
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnishing)
  • Chili pepper (optional, if you like a bit of spice)

Preparation

  1. Start by boiling water for the pasta in a large pot. When the water reaches a boil, salt it and add the pasta, cooking it according to the package instructions to achieve the desired consistency.

  2. Meanwhile, peel the onions and slice them thinly. In a large frying pan, heat two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and add the onions with a pinch of salt. Let them fry over medium-low heat until they become translucent and lightly golden. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can stew them by adding a little hot water, being careful not to burn them.

  3. Drain the tuna from its preserving oil and coarsely shred it with a fork. Add the tuna to the onions in the pan and mix gently.

  4. Drain the pasta al dente, setting aside some of the cooking water. Transfer the pasta to the frying pan with the tuna and onions. If necessary, add a bit of the cooking water to make the sauce creamier.

  5. Mix well to flavor the pasta. Adjust the salt and pepper to your taste. If you have chosen to add chili pepper, you can do it now.

  6. Serve the hot pasta, garnishing with chopped fresh parsley if you wish for a touch of color and freshness.

This dish is a great example of how, with just a few ingredients and in a short time, it’s possible to prepare a complete and satisfying meal. The onion, after being cooked slowly, will develop a natural sweetness that perfectly complements the robust flavor of the tuna.
