Tiramisu truffles

Tiramisu truffles are a tasty variation on the theme of the classic Italian tiramisu, transforming the dessert into delicious balls to be enjoyed in one bite. Let’s look at the recipe together.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of mascarpone
  • 100 g of ladyfingers
  • 80 g of powdered sugar
  • 30 ml of strong cold coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 30 ml of coffee liqueur or Marsala (optional)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for rolling the truffles

Preparation

  1. Start by preparing a strong coffee and let it cool completely.
  2. Finely chop the ladyfingers until they turn into crumbs; you can use a mixer or put them in a bag and roll a rolling pin over them.
  3. In a bowl, mix the mascarpone with the powdered sugar until you get a smooth and homogeneous cream.
  4. Add the ladyfinger crumbs to the bowl with the mascarpone cream and gently fold them in.
  5. Pour in the cold coffee and, if you desire, the coffee liqueur or Marsala. Stir until the mixture is homogeneous.
  6. Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, so it can firm up slightly.
  7. After the resting time, take small portions of the mixture and form balls about the size of a hazelnut or slightly bigger.
  8. Roll the balls in the unsweetened cocoa until they’re completely covered.
  9. Arrange the tiramisu truffles on a serving plate and place them in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.

Tiramisu truffles can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a couple of days. Serve them as an end of meal treat or to accompany an afternoon coffee.

Curiosity

Tiramisu truffles are inspired by tiramisu, but presented in an innovative way. Both in the classic tiramisu and in these truffles, the fundamental flavors of coffee and mascarpone are enhanced in combination with the texture of the biscuit. This single-serving variation is also perfect for a buffet or an aperitif.
