Tiramisù Ice Cream

I can guide you through the preparation of a delicious tiramisù-flavored ice cream. This cold dessert is a summery variant of the classic Italian sweet and is perfect to enjoy as an after-meal treat or a refreshing snack.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml of fresh cream
  • 250 g of mascarpone
  • 100 g of powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs (both yolks and whites)
  • 2 tablespoons of cold espresso coffee
  • 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur or Marsala (optional)
  • As many ladyfingers or dry biscuits as needed
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Preparation

  1. Start by separating the yolks from the whites of the eggs.
  2. Whisk the yolks with the powdered sugar until the mixture is frothy and light.
  3. Add the mascarpone to the egg yolks and sugar mixture and stir until the mixture is uniform.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff.
  5. Also whip the cream separately until firm.
  6. Gently fold the whipped cream and stiff egg whites into the mascarpone mixture, trying not to deflate it.
  7. At this point, add the espresso coffee and liquor, stirring gently.
  8. Break the ladyfingers or dry biscuits into small pieces and add them to the mixture, mixing once again gently.
  9. Pour the mixture into a suitable freezing container and place it in the freezer for at least 4-5 hours, until the ice cream is solid.
  10. Before serving, let the ice cream rest at room temperature for a few minutes, then serve it in small bowls or ice cream cones, dusting the surface with cocoa powder.

Curiosity

Tiramisù is a dessert that has relatively recent origins, dating back to the second half of the 20th century, and has become one of the symbols of Italian pastry around the world. The original recipe doesn’t include an ice cream version, but the adaptation into ice cream is an example of how tradition can meet innovation, combining the pleasure of mascarpone cream and coffee with the freshness of a summer dessert.
