Mille Cuori Biscuits Two-Tone Cookies
17/11/2023The Mille Cuori two-tone biscuits are a sweet idea for a gift or to accompany a tea or coffee. They are two-tone cookies made from classic shortcrust and cocoa shortcrust, creatively intertwined. Here is how to prepare them.
Ingredients
- 300 g of type 00 flour
- 150 g of sugar
- 150 g of butter at room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 1 yolk
- 1 packet of vanillin or the seeds of half a vanilla pod
- 1 pinch of salt
- 30 g of unsweetened cocoa powder
- Icing sugar for decorating (optional)
Preparation
-
In a large bowl, cream the soft butter with the sugar until you get a frothy mixture. Add the whole egg and the yolk, then incorporate the vanillin or vanilla seeds and a pinch of salt, mixing well.
-
Gradually add the flour, kneading until a homogeneous dough is obtained. Divide the dough into two equal parts.
-
To one of the two parts, add the sifted bitter cocoa and work until a uniform color is achieved.
-
Wrap the two doughs separately in cling film and let them rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
-
Take the doughs out of the refrigerator. Roll out each one, separately, on a lightly floured surface, trying to get two sheets about half a centimeter thick.
-
After rolling out the doughs, cut them into strips of the desired width and then intertwine the strips of different colors to create the two-tone effect.
-
With a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or the shape you prefer), cut the cookies from the intertwined mixture.
-
Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake them in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 10-15 minutes, until the edges begin to turn slightly golden.
-
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on a rack.
-
If desired, you can dust the cookies with icing sugar before serving.
Curiosity
You can play with colors and flavors by adding natural ingredients to the dough, such as a bit of strawberry extract or pistachio for an original and colorful touch. These cookies are perfect for holidays like Valentine’s Day or to make any celebration special.
