Sweet white wine taralli

Sweet white wine taralli are a traditional Italian snack, particularly popular in Southern Italy. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of flour
  • 200 ml of dry white wine
  • 100 ml of extra virgin olive oil
  • 100 g of granulated sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1 packet of baking powder for sweets
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. In a bowl, pour the white wine, the extra virgin olive oil, and the sugar. Mix until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Work the ingredients until you get a smooth, even dough.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions and form little ropes, then join the ends to create the classic taralli ring shape.
  5. Arrange the taralli on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving a bit of space between them.
  6. Sprinkle the surface of the taralli with granulated sugar.
  7. Bake the taralli for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy.
  8. Let the taralli cool on a wire rack before serving them.

Sweet white wine taralli can be stored for several days in an airtight container, if you can resist the temptation to finish them all at once!

Curiosities

These taralli combine the simplicity of a crunchy biscuit with the Italian winemaking tradition, and are perfect to enjoy at any time of the day, especially paired with a glass of white wine, following the rule of “what is used in the preparation, is paired with consumption”.
