Cocoa Sweet Pizza

Cocoa sweet pizza is an intriguing twist on the classic pizza, transforming it into a dish suitable for the end of a meal or for a tasty and original snack. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 250 g of all-purpose flour
  • 15 g of fresh baker’s yeast
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 130 ml of lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Nutella or other chocolate spread for garnishing
  • Fresh fruit of your choice (banana, strawberries, etc.)
  • Powdered sugar for garnishing (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by mixing the flour with the sifted cocoa powder in a large bowl.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and add the sugar and a pinch of salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the yeast-water mixture. Begin to knead, incorporating the extra virgin olive oil gradually.
  4. Work the dough until you have a smooth and elastic ball, then cover it with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in volume.
  5. Spread the risen dough on a lightly oiled baking tray, creating a disk about half a centimeter thick.
  6. Bake the pizza base in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 15-20 minutes.
  7. Once cooked and still warm, spread a generous layer of Nutella or your favorite chocolate cream.
  8. Decorate with fresh fruit of your choice such as banana slices or strawberry slices.
  9. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

Curiosity

Sweet pizza is a fun way to experiment with flavor combinations on the traditional pizza base. In Italy, some sweet variations of pizza are also called “pizze dolci” or “dessert pizza”, and are often enriched with typical ingredients such as ricotta, mascarpone, or even ice cream and chocolate, depending on the region and the creativity of the pizza maker.
