Stuffed Puff Pastry Carrots

Stuffed puff pastry carrots are a delicious and fun appetizer to prepare and serve. They can be filled with a cheese stuffing, vegetables, or even a pate, according to taste. Here is the basic recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
  • 100 g of cream cheese (like Philadelphia)
  • 50 g of grated cheese (e.g., Parmesan)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Tomato extract or red food coloring
  • Chives (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into long, thin strips.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese with the grated cheese, add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Take a sprig of chives and place it at the end of a pastry strip, allowing it to stick out slightly.
  5. Place some cheese filling on the pastry strip and gently roll the pastry around the chives, leaving it to protrude at the top to simulate the green part of the carrot.
  6. Continue in the same way until all the ingredients are used up, creating several “carrots”.
  7. Beat the egg yolk and add a few drops of tomato extract or food coloring to obtain an orange color.
  8. Use a kitchen brush to gently brush the “carrots” with the yolk and coloring mixture, to give the appearance of carrot skin.
  9. Bake the carrots for about 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden and crispy.
  10. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
