Stuffed Friggitelli

Stuffed friggitelli are an excellent idea for a tasty side dish or a starter. They are small, sweet green peppers that are well suited for stuffing and cooking. Here’s how to prepare stuffed friggitelli:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of friggitelli
  • 150 g of ricotta
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan
  • 1 egg
  • Chopped parsley to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

  1. Start by washing the friggitelli, then cut the top off and remove the inner seeds, being careful not to break the peppers.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ricotta with the grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, the egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  3. Fill each friggitello with the ricotta mixture, using a teaspoon. If you want, you can dip the open end of the friggitelli in breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  4. Place the stuffed friggitelli in an oiled baking dish and cook in a preheated oven at 180 °C (356 °F) for about 20-25 minutes, or until the peppers are soft and the surface is slightly golden.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.

Curiosity

Friggitelli are also known as “peperoni di Sigaretta” due to their elongated shape that resembles a cigarette. They are very popular in Italian cuisine, especially in central and southern Italy, where they are appreciated for their sweet taste and their versatility in the kitchen.

Remember that you can play with the stuffing, adding for example canned tuna or crumbled sausage, to give an extra touch to the dish.
