Strawberry Pinwheels

Strawberry pinwheels are a fresh and delicious springtime dessert. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of rectangular puff pastry
  • 200 g of custard cream
  • 300 g of fresh strawberries
  • Powdered sugar (for decoration)
  • A little milk or beaten egg (for brushing)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread the custard cream evenly over it, leaving about a 1 cm border free.
  4. Wash the strawberries, dry them, slice them, and distribute them over the cream.
  5. Gently roll the puff pastry from the long side, forming a roll.
  6. Cut the roll into slices about 2 cm thick, thus obtaining the pinwheels.
  7. Place the pinwheels on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, making sure to leave a bit of space between each one.
  8. Brush the surface with a little milk or the beaten egg to get more intense browning during baking.
  9. Bake the pinwheels for about 20 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  11. Before serving, dust with powdered sugar to taste.

Curiosity

These pinwheels are very versatile, so you can experiment by replacing the strawberries with other types of fresh fruit of your choice, or by adding flavors like vanilla or a pinch of cinnamon to the custard cream to give your dessert an extra touch.

Remember that you can always adapt this recipe to your needs, changing the type of cream or fruit used. And if you’re looking for a completely Italian proposal, you could turn the pinwheels into a real “strudelino” using diced apples, pine nuts, raisins, and cinnamon instead of strawberries and custard cream. Enjoy your preparation!
