Strawberry Crumble Cake

Here is the recipe for a delicious Strawberry Crumble Cake with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of fresh strawberries
  • 200 g of type 00 flour
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 100 g of cold butter, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lemon (grated zest)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar (for decorating, optional)
  • (Optional) A tablespoon of balsamic vinegar to enhance the flavor of the strawberries

Preparation

  1. Take a bowl and start preparing the crumble dough by mixing together the flour, sugar, cold cubed butter, grated lemon zest, baking powder, and salt. Knead until you get a sandy mixture.
  2. In a baking pan, spread half of the crumble mixture to form an even base.
  3. Wash and cut the strawberries into pieces (if you wish, you can add a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar to the strawberries to intensify their taste) and distribute them over the crumble base in the baking pan.
  4. Cover the strawberries with the remaining crumbled dough.
  5. Beat the egg lightly and brush the surface of the crumble for a more even browning.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 30 minutes or until the surface is golden and crispy.
  7. Once baked, let the cake cool before dusting with icing sugar for decoration, if desired.

Curiosity

The crumble has British origins, but the addition of balsamic vinegar is an Italian twist to enhance its taste. Also, in Italy, it is common to find desserts with fresh fruit, especially in the appropriate seasons. Strawberries, in particular, are very popular because they add a touch of freshness and vibrant color to desserts.
