Steamed Cod

I will guide you through the recipe to prepare a delicious steamed cod, a light and healthy dish. Steaming is ideal for preserving the nutritional qualities of the fish and its delicate flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 cod fillets (about 150-200 g each)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

  1. Start by cleaning the cod fillets, making sure they are free of skin and bones.
  2. Sprinkle the fillets with salt and pepper and drizzle them with a bit of lemon juice. You can let them marinate for about 10 minutes to better absorb the flavors.
  3. Prepare your steamer or, if you don’t have one, use a colander placed over a pot with a little water at the bottom, making sure the water does not touch the cod. Remember to cover with a lid so as not to disperse the steam.
  4. Bring the water to a boil and place the cod fillets in the steamer basket or colander.
  5. Steam for about 8-10 minutes, or until the cod becomes opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, gently transfer the cod onto a serving dish.
  7. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil before serving.

You could accompany the steamed cod with steamed vegetables as well, for a light and healthy meal. Don’t forget to serve the dish with a slice of lemon on the side, for those who wish to add a bit more acidity at the time of consumption.
