Centerpiece of Little Stars

The Centerpiece of Little Stars are delicious typical Christmas sweets, well suited to be used as decorations for the festive table. Here I will show you how to make a simple version of these star-shaped cookies that can beautify and delight your table centerpiece.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 125 g of sugar
  • 125 g of butter at room temperature
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar for decoration

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour with the sugar and pinch of salt.
  2. Add the butter, cut into pieces, and quickly work with the fingertips until a sandy mixture is obtained.
  3. Incorporate the whole egg and the yolk, add the grated lemon zest, and knead until a smooth ball is formed.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 5 mm.
  7. Using a star-shaped cutter, cut out the cookies from the rolled dough and arrange them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until they are slightly golden on the edges.
  9. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
  10. If desired, once cooled, dust with icing sugar for a snowy effect.

You can arrange the little stars on a serving plate or a wooden cutting board, perhaps alternating them with spruce twigs and candles, for a true Christmas table’s scenic effect. Remember that simplicity is often synonymous with elegance, so do not overdo the decorations.
