Soy Sauce Glazed Tuna

The soy sauce glazed tuna is a simple but very tasty dish that combines the flavors of the sea with oriental ones, creating a perfect balance for the palate. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh tuna steaks (about 150 g each)
  • 4 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • 1 piece of fresh ginger, grated
  • Sesame seeds, for garnishing
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

  1. Start by preparing the marinade: in a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, crushed garlic, and grated ginger. Mix the ingredients well until you obtain a homogeneous sauce.
  2. Lay the tuna steaks in a dish and pour the prepared marinade over them. Make sure the fish is well immersed and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, turning it once halfway through.
  3. Preheat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat and once hot, remove the tuna steaks from the marinade (keeping the marinade) and place them in the pan. Cook each side for about 1-2 minutes for a medium-rare finish, or longer if you prefer the tuna less raw.
  4. While the tuna is cooking, pour the remaining marinade into a small pot and bring it to a boil. Let it reduce for 2-3 minutes until it becomes a slightly thickened sauce.
  5. Once the tuna is cooked, remove it from the pan and slice it. Dress it with the reduced soy sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  6. Serve the glazed tuna immediately, possibly accompanied by basmati rice or steamed vegetables.

Curiosity

Tuna is a fish highly valued in cooking for its intense flavor and meaty texture. The technique of “glazing,” which is the creation of a shiny and flavorful surface thanks to a sweet-salty marinade, is particularly suited to enhance the qualities of fresh tuna.

For an even more Italian touch, you could add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to the marinade and serve the dish with a side of grilled vegetables with a touch of balsamic vinegar! Enjoy your meal!
