Sesame Shrimp Toast
17/11/2023Sesame shrimp toast is a delightful dish that can be served as an appetizer or snack. Let’s prepare it in the Italian way, adding a Mediterranean touch to make the dish even more inviting.
Ingredients
- 200 g of peeled and cleaned shrimp
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- 1 clove of garlic
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
- A few slices of homemade bread or baguette
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
- 1 egg (optional, if you want a crunchier breading)
- Flour, as needed (if using the egg for breading)
Preparation
-
Start by lightly toasting the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan until they become golden. Be careful not to burn them. Set aside.
-
Season the shrimp with lemon juice, salt, pepper, and finely chopped garlic. Let them marinate for about 10-15 minutes.
-
If you desire a crispy breading, coat the shrimp first in beaten egg and then in flour. This step is optional.
-
Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a pan and cook the shrimp until they are golden and crispy. Halfway through cooking, add the toasted sesame seeds to make them adhere well to the shrimp.
-
In the meantime, toast the slices of bread until they are crispy and golden.
-
Place the hot sesame shrimp onto the toasted bread slices.
-
If desired, garnish with chopped fresh parsley to add color and an additional touch of Mediterranean flavor.
These sesame shrimp toasts are perfect to be served as an appetizer at a cocktail party or as a tasty starter before a fish-based dinner.
Curiosity
In Italy, croutons or toasts are often served as an appetizer, perhaps accompanied by a good glass of white wine. The shrimp and sesame add a refined and international twist to this Italian classic.
