Sesame Shrimp Toast

Sesame shrimp toast is a delightful dish that can be served as an appetizer or snack. Let’s prepare it in the Italian way, adding a Mediterranean touch to make the dish even more inviting.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of peeled and cleaned shrimp
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
  • A few slices of homemade bread or baguette
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
  • 1 egg (optional, if you want a crunchier breading)
  • Flour, as needed (if using the egg for breading)

Preparation

  1. Start by lightly toasting the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan until they become golden. Be careful not to burn them. Set aside.

  2. Season the shrimp with lemon juice, salt, pepper, and finely chopped garlic. Let them marinate for about 10-15 minutes.

  3. If you desire a crispy breading, coat the shrimp first in beaten egg and then in flour. This step is optional.

  4. Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a pan and cook the shrimp until they are golden and crispy. Halfway through cooking, add the toasted sesame seeds to make them adhere well to the shrimp.

  5. In the meantime, toast the slices of bread until they are crispy and golden.

  6. Place the hot sesame shrimp onto the toasted bread slices.

  7. If desired, garnish with chopped fresh parsley to add color and an additional touch of Mediterranean flavor.

These sesame shrimp toasts are perfect to be served as an appetizer at a cocktail party or as a tasty starter before a fish-based dinner.

Curiosity

In Italy, croutons or toasts are often served as an appetizer, perhaps accompanied by a good glass of white wine. The shrimp and sesame add a refined and international twist to this Italian classic.
