Shrimp Balls with Tartar Sauce

Shrimp balls are a delicious dish that can be prepared in various versions. I propose a version with an Italian twist, using Mediterranean aromatic herbs to flavor the balls. Here is the recipe, including instructions for making a homemade tartar sauce.

Ingredients for the shrimp balls:

  • 500 g of cleaned shrimp
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
  • A bunch of fresh parsley
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil for frying

Ingredients for the tartar sauce:

  • 200 g of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of salted capers
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped pickled cucumbers
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard (optional)
  • Chopped parsley to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Preparation of the shrimp balls:

  1. Start by finely chopping the shrimp. If you prefer, you can do it with a mixer, but be careful not to turn them into a puree.
  2. Also finely chop the garlic and parsley.
  3. In a bowl, mix the chopped shrimp, garlic, parsley, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Form small balls with the mixture and slightly flatten them to give an oval shape.
  5. Heat the oil in a pan and, once hot, fry the balls until they are golden brown on all sides.
  6. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Preparation of the tartar sauce:

  1. To prepare the tartar sauce, start by rinsing the capers well to remove the excess salt and chop them together with the pickles.
  2. Peel the hard-boiled egg and finely chop the white and yolk separately.
  3. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise with the capers, pickles, hard-boiled egg, mustard (if you like), chopped parsley, salt, and pepper, then mix everything together well.
  4. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Serve the shrimp balls hot with the tartar sauce on the side.

Curiosity

Shrimp balls can be a delicious variation of the classic seafood appetizers. Combining the freshness of shrimp with aromatic herbs creates a flavorful and aromatic dish that evokes the flavors of the Mediterranean. The tartar sauce, on the other hand, with its creaminess and the presence of capers and pickles, offers a pleasant contrast of flavors.

Enjoy your meal!
