Shrimp Balls with Tartar Sauce
17/11/2023Shrimp balls are a delicious dish that can be prepared in various versions. I propose a version with an Italian twist, using Mediterranean aromatic herbs to flavor the balls. Here is the recipe, including instructions for making a homemade tartar sauce.
Ingredients for the shrimp balls:
- 500 g of cleaned shrimp
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
- A bunch of fresh parsley
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Extra virgin olive oil for frying
Ingredients for the tartar sauce:
- 200 g of mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon of salted capers
- 1 tablespoon of chopped pickled cucumbers
- 1 hard-boiled egg
- 1 tablespoon of mustard (optional)
- Chopped parsley to taste
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Preparation of the shrimp balls:
- Start by finely chopping the shrimp. If you prefer, you can do it with a mixer, but be careful not to turn them into a puree.
- Also finely chop the garlic and parsley.
- In a bowl, mix the chopped shrimp, garlic, parsley, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
- Form small balls with the mixture and slightly flatten them to give an oval shape.
- Heat the oil in a pan and, once hot, fry the balls until they are golden brown on all sides.
- Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Preparation of the tartar sauce:
- To prepare the tartar sauce, start by rinsing the capers well to remove the excess salt and chop them together with the pickles.
- Peel the hard-boiled egg and finely chop the white and yolk separately.
- In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise with the capers, pickles, hard-boiled egg, mustard (if you like), chopped parsley, salt, and pepper, then mix everything together well.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
Serve the shrimp balls hot with the tartar sauce on the side.
Curiosity
Shrimp balls can be a delicious variation of the classic seafood appetizers. Combining the freshness of shrimp with aromatic herbs creates a flavorful and aromatic dish that evokes the flavors of the Mediterranean. The tartar sauce, on the other hand, with its creaminess and the presence of capers and pickles, offers a pleasant contrast of flavors.
Enjoy your meal!
