17/11/2023Here is an Italian recipe that embodies a taste for simple and well-matched flavors: the pastry with ham, tomato, and sesame. A perfect example of how a few quality ingredients can create a delicious dish.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
- 100 g of quality cooked ham
- 1-2 ripe tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
- 100 g of mozzarella (or scamorza for a smokier flavor)
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste (optional)
- Dry oregano (optional)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
- Roll out the puff pastry, keeping it on the paper provided in the packaging.
- Slice the tomatoes into thin slices and dry them with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Slice the mozzarella (or scamorza) into slices or cubes.
- Evenly distribute the cooked ham over the surface of the puff pastry.
- Layer the tomato slices on top of the cooked ham.
- Over the tomatoes, distribute the mozzarella or scamorza, then season lightly with salt, a bit of black pepper, and dry oregano if desired.
- Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the surface of the pastry.
- Fold the edges of the puff pastry slightly inward to prevent the filling from spilling out during baking.
- Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the edges of the pastry to achieve a uniform golden color during baking.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until the surface of the pastry becomes golden and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Curiosity
The pastry can be made in multiple variants, experimenting with different types of cured meats and cheeses. Sesame adds a crunchy note and a delicate flavor that pairs well with the sweetness of the tomato and the savoriness of the cooked ham.
