Sesame Biscuits

Sesame biscuits are a simple and crunchy sweet, perfect to accompany tea or coffee. Here’s the recipe, with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder for sweets
  • 50 grams of milk
  • 100 grams of sesame seeds
  • Vanilla (a pod or extract) to taste

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, cream the soft butter with the sugar until smooth.
  2. Add the egg and continue to work the mixture, then incorporate the vanilla.
  3. Separately, mix the flour with the baking powder and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the creamy mixture, gradually adding the milk, until you get a homogeneous dough.
  4. Prepare a plate with sesame seeds.
  5. Detach small portions of dough and form into balls, then roll them in the sesame seeds until completely covered.
  6. Place the balls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, slightly flattening them to shape into biscuits.
  7. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 °C for about 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  8. Let the biscuits cool on a rack before serving.

Curiosity

Sesame biscuits are widespread in various culinary cultures, and in Italy, they are often appreciated for their simple yet rich flavor and their crunchiness. Sesame seeds are also very nutritious and rich in minerals and vitamins.

Remember that if you should not have one of the unlisted ingredients like milk or vanilla, you can always substitute it or simply omit it from the recipe. For example, milk can be replaced with a plant-based drink, while vanilla can be omitted or substituted with grated lemon zest.
