Smoked Salmon and Mozzarella Savory Pie

I can tell you how to prepare a delicious smoked salmon and mozzarella savory pie with a sprinkle of Italian taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of ready-made puff pastry
  • 200 g of smoked salmon
  • 200 g of mozzarella (buffalo mozzarella is better for a more authentic taste)
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 ml of heavy cream
  • A bunch of dill (or chives for a more Mediterranean touch)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  2. Spread the puff pastry in a round baking dish, prick it all over with the tines of a fork to prevent it from puffing up during cooking, and then bake it for about 10 minutes (this process is called “blind baking”).
  3. Meanwhile, in a bowl beat the eggs with the cream, then add a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Cut the mozzarella into cubes and the salmon into strips.
  5. Finely chop the dill or chives and add it to the egg and cream mixture.
  6. Remove the puff pastry base from the oven and evenly distribute the salmon and mozzarella on top.
  7. Pour the egg and cream mixture over the salmon and mozzarella.
  8. Bake the savory pie at 180° C for about 25-30 minutes or until the surface is golden and presentable.
  9. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Trivia

The savory pie, also known as quiche in France, is an extremely versatile dish. Salmon and mozzarella are a rich and creamy pairing that goes well with the crispiness of the puff pastry. In Italy, savory pies are commonly found at buffets or as a starter during parties.

If you wish, this savory pie can be accompanied by a nice glass of fresh white wine, perhaps a Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc, which with their acidity balance the fat of the salmon and mozzarella well. Enjoy your meal!
