Savory Pie with Smoked Salmon

The savory pie with smoked salmon is an elegant and tasty dish, perfect for a refined appetizer or buffet. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 rectangular roll of puff pastry
  • 200g of smoked salmon
  • 250g of fresh ricotta
  • 1 zucchini
  • 2 eggs
  • 50g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh or dried dill to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of milk (to brush the puff pastry)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry inside a rectangular baking tray, leaving the parchment paper underneath. Prick the base with a fork to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
  3. Wash and cut the zucchini into thin slices and, if you prefer, sauté it in a pan with a drizzle of oil for a few minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix the ricotta with the eggs, Parmesan, salt, and pepper until you get a smooth mixture.
  5. Add the zucchini (fresh or sautéed) and chopped dill to the ricotta mixture.
  6. Cut the smoked salmon into strips or pieces and gently fold it into the mixture.
  7. Pour the filling over the puff pastry base and level it with a spatula.
  8. If desired, you can leave a border of puff pastry or fold it slightly over the filling.
  9. Brush the edge of the puff pastry with a bit of milk.
  10. Bake the savory pie in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the surface is golden and the puff pastry is cooked.
  11. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Curiosity

Smoked salmon is a typical ingredient of Nordic countries and is particularly appreciated for its bold flavor and soft texture. Paired with the delicacy of ricotta and the scent of dill, it creates a blend of flavors that evoke the atmospheres of those places. In Italy, smoked salmon is often used for refined preparations and is appreciated both on special occasions and in informal dinners.
