Sausage and potatoes with beer

Sausage and potatoes with beer is a flavorful dish that aims to satisfy the love for meat and the rustic accompaniment of potatoes. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 sausages of your preferred type (you can choose from fresh pork sausages or chicken sausages)
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes
  • 1 bottle of light beer (about 330 ml)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh rosemary (a few sprigs)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Start by washing the potatoes and cutting them into medium-sized cubes or wedges. You can leave or remove the skin according to your personal taste.
  2. Slice the onion and finely chop the garlic.
  3. In a large frying pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil and add the onion and chopped garlic. Let them sauté until they become transparent.
  4. Place the sausages in the pan, allowing them to brown on all sides.
  5. Once the sausages are golden, add the potatoes and sauté them for a few minutes together with the sautéed mixture.
  6. Pour the beer into the pan, covering the sausages and potatoes at least halfway. Bring to a gentle boil.
  7. Add the sprigs of rosemary, a pinch of salt, and pepper.
  8. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook over medium-low heat for about 30-40 minutes, until the potatoes are soft, and the liquid has reduced a bit, making sure it doesn’t dry out too much and, if necessary, adjusting the liquid (with water or beer).
  9. Check the doneness of the sausages by piercing them with a fork; if a clear liquid comes out, they are ready.
  10. Serve the sausages and potatoes with their cooking sauce.

Curiosity

Beer not only provides this dish with moisture and tenderness in the meat, but also a unique flavor that combines sweetness and bitterness. The choice of beer can significantly influence the final taste, so you can experiment with different beers, from light and clear to fuller-bodied and amber ones.

Enjoy your meal!
