Sausage and Mozzarella Crostini
17/11/2023Here’s the recipe to prepare delicious crostini with sausage and mozzarella, a tasty and beloved combination.
Ingredients
- 200 g of sausage
- 1 mozzarella (about 125-150 g)
- 1 baguette or small loaf of bread
- Dried oregano to taste
- Extra virgin olive oil to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C (grill mode if available).
- Remove the casing from the sausage and crumble it.
- In a non-stick pan, cook the crumbled sausage until well browned and crispy. There is no need to add oil since the sausage will release its own fat. At the end of cooking, if necessary, remove any excess fat.
- In the meantime, cut the mozzarella into cubes and let it drain to remove any excess liquid.
- Cut the baguette or loaf of bread into slices about 1 cm thick and arrange them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Drizzle each slice of bread with a bit of extra virgin olive oil and toast in the preheated oven for about 3-5 minutes or until they are golden. Be careful not to burn them.
- Once toasted, evenly distribute the cooked sausage on the slices of bread.
- Add the mozzarella cubes on top of the sausage and sprinkle with oregano and black pepper to taste.
- Put the crostini back in the oven and let them gratin until the mozzarella is completely melted and slightly golden, which may take about another 5 minutes.
- Serve the crostini hot.
A great idea is to accompany these crostini with a glass of light red wine or a dark craft beer, which can nicely balance the rich and intense flavor of the sausage and mozzarella.
Curiosità
The crostini are a versatile and very popular snack in the Italian aperitif. With the addition of sausage, they become a rustic and hearty dish, perfect as an appetizer in an informal meal. The combination with mozzarella makes everything even more appetizing thanks to the contrast between the crunchiness of the bread and the softness of the melting cheese.
