Salmon Tartare
17/11/2023Salmon tartare is an elegant and tasty dish, perfect for an appetizer or a light entrée. Here is the recipe with an Italian twist.
Ingredients
- 200 grams of high-quality sashimi-grade salmon (or smoked salmon for an alternative)
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 lemon (both juice and some grated zest)
- 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped chives
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of mustard (optional)
- Chopped capers (optional)
Preparation
- Start by cutting the salmon into small cubes. Ensure the fish is very fresh and of good quality, or use smoked salmon if you prefer not to consume raw fish.
- Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh, cutting it into cubes the same size as the salmon.
- In a bowl, gently mix the salmon with the avocado, adding the lemon juice, grated zest, extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, and chopped chives. If you like, you can also add a bit of mustard for a spicy touch and chopped capers for a more assertive flavor.
- Mix all the ingredients well until they are well combined.
- Plate the tartare using a round mold to give it a compact shape.
- For a crunchy touch and a slightly toasted flavor, you can sprinkle some sesame seeds on top before serving.
To accompany this tartare, you can pair it with crispy bread, such as bruschetta or croutons.
Curiosity
Salmon tartare is often accompanied by dill cream or sauce, an aromatic plant that pairs perfectly with fish. In Italy, it is common to dress fish with citrus fruits like lemon or orange to enhance its flavor.
