Rustic puff pastry stracchino and salami

I will be glad to help you prepare a rustic puff pastry with stracchino and salami. This quick and tasty dish is perfect as an appetizer or as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
  • 150 g of stracchino cheese
  • 100 g of salami, sliced or diced
  • 1 egg yolk for brushing
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnishing)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Spread the stracchino cheese evenly over the surface of the puff pastry, leaving a margin of about 1 cm from the edges.
  4. Arrange the slices or cubes of salami on top of the stracchino.
  5. If desired, you can now add an extra touch, like chopped aromatic herbs (rosemary or thyme) or fresh tomato slices.
  6. Start rolling up the pastry from the long side, making sure to roll it tightly.
  7. Once rolled, seal the edges well by brushing them lightly with a bit of water.
  8. Cut the roll into slices about 2 cm thick and place them on the baking sheet, slightly flattening them.
  9. Beat the egg yolk and gently brush the surface of your rustic pastries.
  10. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if you have decided to use them.
  11. Bake and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until you notice the pastries have turned a golden and crispy color.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Fun Fact

Stracchino, a delightful soft and creamy cheese, originates from the Lombardy region in Italy. Its name derives from the dialectal term “stracco,” meaning tired. It is said to have been produced with the milk of cows tired from returning from mountain pastures. This element adds a note of creaminess and flavor to your rustic puff pastry, creating a nice contrast with the strong taste of the salami.
