Rustic Broccoli and Mozzarella Tart

The rustic tart with broccoli and mozzarella is a tasty dish, excellent as both an appetizer and a main course. Here is the recipe with an Italian twist:

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of puff pastry or shortcrust pastry
  • 500 g of broccoli
  • 250 g of mozzarella
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 ml of cooking cream
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Nutmeg (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by cleaning the broccoli: remove the hardest parts and boil in salted water for about 5-7 minutes. Drain well and set aside.

  2. In a pan, fry a clove of garlic in extra virgin olive oil and then add the broccoli. Sauté for a few minutes, then adjust with salt and pepper and let cool.

  3. Roll out the puff pastry or shortcrust pastry in a previously greased tray or lined with parchment paper. Prick the base with a fork and then evenly distribute the broccoli on the base.

  4. Cut the mozzarella into cubes and distribute over the broccoli.

  5. In a bowl, beat the eggs with the cream, add the Parmesan, a pinch of nutmeg if you like, salt and pepper, and mix well.

  6. Pour the egg, cream, and Parmesan mixture over the mozzarella and broccoli in the tray.

  7. Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling to create a rustic frame around the tart.

  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 30-40 minutes or until the surface appears golden and the pastry is cooked.

  9. Let the rustic tart cool down a bit before serving.
