Potato and Smoked Salmon Puff Pastry Tart

Here’s how to prepare a tasty Puff Pastry Tart with Potatoes and Smoked Salmon, a dish that combines the rich flavors of smoked salmon with the softness of potatoes, all framed by a crispy layer of puff pastry.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of ready-made puff pastry
  • 2-3 medium potatoes
  • 200 g of smoked salmon
  • 200 ml of fresh cream for cooking
  • 2 egg yolks
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh or dried dill to taste (optional)
  • Butter for greasing the pan

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Peel the potatoes, cut them into thin slices, and cook them in slightly salted water for about 5-10 minutes, until they soften. Drain and let cool.
  3. Gently unfold the puff pastry and place it in a pan previously greased or lined with parchment paper. Puncture the bottom slightly with a fork.
  4. Arrange a layer of potatoes on the base of the puff pastry.
  5. Add a layer of smoked salmon on top of the potatoes.
  6. In a bowl, mix the cream with the egg yolks, salt, pepper, and chopped dill until you achieve a smooth mixture.
  7. Pour the cream and egg mixture over the salmon layer.
  8. Add a second layer of potatoes, if desired, and pour the remaining cream and egg mixture.
  9. Fold the edges of the puff pastry inward if it is excessive compared to the filling.
  10. Bake the tart for about 25-30 minutes or until the puff pastry turns golden brown and crispy.
  11. Let the tart rest for a few minutes before serving, so the filling sets.

Trivia

Smoked salmon is often used in Nordic cuisines and is appreciated for its intense flavor and texture, which pairs well with soft and neutral ingredients like potatoes. In this recipe, the use of dill is a nod to these cuisines; however, if it’s not to your liking, you can choose to omit it or substitute it with another herb of your preference, such as parsley or thyme.
