Puff pastry snail with gorgonzola and mortadella

The puff pastry snails are a tasty and very appetizing starter. Here’s the recipe with an all-Italian twist thanks to gorgonzola and mortadella.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
  • 150 g of gorgonzola
  • 150 g of thinly sliced mortadella
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • Sesame or poppy seeds (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C if fan-assisted).
  2. Gently unfold the puff pastry on a work surface.
  3. Spread the gorgonzola on the puff pastry, leaving a free edge of about 1 cm on all sides.
  4. Distribute the slices of mortadella over the gorgonzola.
  5. Carefully roll up the puff pastry with the filling, starting from the long side, to form a tight roll.
  6. With a sharp knife, cut the roll into slices about 2 cm thick.
  7. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each snail.
  8. Beat the egg in a small bowl and lightly brush the surface of the snails.
  9. If desired, sprinkle the snails with sesame or poppy seeds to add a crunchy touch.
  10. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the snails are golden and crispy.
  11. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
