Puff Pastry Savories
30/11/2023Puff pastry savories are tasty appetizers that can be easily prepared. They are perfect for a buffet or an aperitif. Here is a classic Italian version of these delicious bites.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
- 150 g of cooked ham
- 150 g of cheese, such as mozzarella or provola, sliced
- 1 egg yolk
- Sesame or poppy seeds (optional)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
- Gently unroll the puff pastry onto a work surface.
- Evenly distribute the slices of cooked ham on the puff pastry, leaving a free margin along the edges.
- On top of the ham, add a single layer of cheese.
- Roll up the puff pastry on itself starting from the long side, making sure to tighten well while rolling.
- Once you have a long roll, seal the edges by slightly pressing with your fingers.
- Cut the roll into small rounds about 2 cm thick.
- Place the rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.
- Beat the egg yolk and brush it over the surface of the savories.
- If desired, sprinkle the savories with sesame or poppy seeds to add crunchiness and flavor.
- Bake the savories for about 15-20 minutes, until they become golden and crispy.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Curiosity
The savories also lend themselves to numerous variations. You can replace the cooked ham with speck, salami, or even smoked salmon if you prefer a stronger and different taste. As for the cheese, feel free to experiment with blue cheeses or more aged ones for a more intense flavor.
