Puff Pastry Pinwheel with Fruit and Chocolate

The puff pastry pinwheel with fruit and chocolate is a delicious dessert that is quite simple to prepare. It’s ideal for a sweet snack or as a dessert after a meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 rectangular roll of puff pastry
  • 100 g of dark chocolate
  • Fresh fruit of your choice (e.g., strawberries, bananas, kiwi, or for an exotic touch, perhaps pineapple or mango)
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a work surface and cut it into squares of about 10x10 cm.
  3. Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place some at the center of each square of puff pastry.
  4. Wash, dry, and cut the chosen fruit into small pieces and place them on top of the chocolate in the puff pastry squares.
  5. Make cuts from the corners of the puff pastry squares towards the center, stopping about 1 cm from the fruit.
  6. Alternately roll the corners towards the center to create the pinwheel shape.
  7. Brush each pinwheel with the beaten egg yolk. This will give the pinwheels a nice golden color when baked.
  8. Arrange the pinwheels on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake the pinwheels for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  10. Let them cool slightly before serving, and if you wish, dust them with powdered sugar.

For an even more special touch, you can serve the pinwheels accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or fruit sauce.

Curiosity

Puff pastry, with its countless buttery layers that puff up during baking, originates from an ancient French baking process but has found its place in Italian pastry making, where it is used in both sweet and savory preparations. Its versatility allows for delicious dishes and eye-catching presentations like the pinwheels.
