Puff Pastry Fans
17/11/2023Puff pastry fans are a delicious snack or sweet that can be served as either a dessert or a snack. They are particularly easy to prepare and you can personalize them to your liking with sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, or jam. Here is the basic recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 rectangular puff pastry sheet
- Granulated sugar to taste
- (Optional) Cinnamon powder
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a work surface and sprinkle it with a generous amount of granulated sugar. If you like, you can also add a pinch of cinnamon for a spicy touch.
- Lightly pass the rolling pin over the surface to better adhere the sugar to the pastry.
- Fold the two long sides of the puff pastry toward the center so that they meet exactly in the middle without overlapping.
- Sprinkle again with sugar and pass the rolling pin over it.
- Fold the sides toward the center again, covering the central part, sprinkle with more sugar, and pass the rolling pin.
- Repeat the process until the puff pastry is completely rolled up on itself.
- Cut the rolled puff pastry into slices about 1 cm thick and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, slightly flattening them.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the fans are puffed and golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
The fans are suitable for an afternoon tea as well as an end-of-meal treat, perhaps accompanied by a glass of Vin Santo if you wish to stay on theme with Italian flavors. Remember that the puff pastry will puff up and become crunchy, so it is important not to cut the slices too thick. Have fun and enjoy your meal!
