Pesto Puff Pastry Breadsticks

Here’s a simple and quick recipe to prepare tasty pesto puff pastry breadsticks, perfect as an appetizer or to accompany a starter.

Ingredients

  • 1 rectangular sheet of puff pastry
  • Basil pesto as needed (necessary quantity)
  • 1 egg yolk (optional, for glazing)
  • grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Gently unroll the puff pastry on a work surface.
  3. Spread a uniform layer of basil pesto over the surface of the puff pastry. If you are a fan of the taste of Parmesan, you can also sprinkle some grated Parmesan on top.
  4. With a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, cut the puff pastry into strips about 1 cm wide.
  5. Take each strip by the ends and twist it upon itself to form a spiral. Be careful not to squeeze too hard to avoid breaking them.
  6. As you form the breadsticks, lay them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each one.
  7. If you wish, you can brush the breadsticks with a beaten egg yolk, which will make them golden and shiny after baking.
  8. Bake the breadsticks for about 10-15 minutes or until they become golden and crispy.
  9. Once baked, let them cool on a rack before serving.

Pesto puff pastry breadsticks are great on their own but can also be accompanied with cheeses and cold cuts for a richer aperitif.
