Potato and bacon roses

Potato and bacon roses are a delicious and visually appealing dish that can adorn both the everyday table and that of a special dinner. Here is the recipe to prepare them.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium-sized potatoes
  • 100-150 g of bacon slices
  • Olive oil as needed
  • Salt, black pepper as needed
  • Chopped fresh rosemary (optional)
  • Melted butter or olive oil for brushing
  • Muffin tins or baking molds

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Wash the potatoes and dry them well. Cut them into thin slices, preferably using a mandolin to achieve even thickness.
  3. Place the potato slices in a bowl and season with olive oil, salt, pepper, and chopped rosemary, if desired. Mix well so that all the slices are slightly greased and flavored.
  4. Take a slice of bacon and lay it on a flat surface. Lay the potato slices on top so that they overlap slightly, creating the longest strip possible.
  5. Carefully roll the bacon and potatoes together, creating the effect of rose “petals” sticking out. Proceed until you have used all the slices.
  6. Take a muffin tin or small baking molds and grease each one with a bit of melted butter or olive oil.
  7. Gently place each potato and bacon “rose” inside the mold.
  8. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the bacon is crispy. Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the slices and the type of oven.
  9. Once ready, let them cool for a couple of minutes before removing from the molds.

Serve your potato and bacon roses immediately as a tasty appetizer or as an original accompaniment to meat or fish.

Curiosity

This dish, in addition to being very decorative and tasty, can be enriched with various herbs or spices to give a different touch each time. The choice to accompany it with rosemary, for example, is a small tribute to Italian tradition, where rosemary is often used to flavor potato dishes.
