Pleurotus Cutlets

Pleurotus cutlets are an excellent vegetarian alternative to the classic meat cutlets and are very simple to prepare. Here is the recipe to make tasty pleurotus cutlets.

Ingredients

  • 4 large pleurotus mushrooms (or more, smaller ones based on the size you prefer)
  • Wheat flour to taste
  • Breadcrumbs to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Lemon to serve
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Clean the pleurotus mushrooms well with a damp cloth to remove any earthy residues.
  2. If the mushrooms are very large, you can divide them into pieces that mimic the shape of a cutlet.
  3. In a bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt and a little pepper until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  4. Coat the mushrooms first in flour, then in the beaten egg, and finally in breadcrumbs, making sure they are well covered on all sides to achieve a crispy breading.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and when it is hot, fry the pleurotus cutlets until they become golden on both sides.
  6. Drain the cutlets on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve the pleurotus cutlets hot, spraying a bit of lemon juice on them to enhance the flavor.
