Plaice Rolls

Plaice rolls are a delicate and tasty second course. Here’s how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 4 plaice fillets
  • 100 g of breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley to taste
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lemon (for garnish and for the juice)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (356 °F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the grated Parmesan, some of the chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and crushed or finely chopped garlic clove.
  3. Lay out the plaice fillets and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  4. Spread the breadcrumb mixture onto the plaice fillets and roll them up to form the rolls.
  5. Secure the rolls with a toothpick to prevent them from opening during cooking.
  6. Place the rolls in an oiled baking dish and drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil.
  7. Bake the rolls for about 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  8. Serve the plaice rolls hot, garnished with lemon slices and a sprinkle of fresh parsley.

Curiosity

Fish rolls are typical of Italian cuisine, especially in coastal regions, where fish is an integral part of the diet. Plaice is a fish highly appreciated for its white and delicate flesh, which is well suited for these preparations. In Italy, it is common to enrich the breadcrumb with aromatic herbs and cheeses like Parmesan to enhance the flavor.

Furthermore, for an all-Italian touch, you can add chopped anchovies or capers to the filling to intensify the flavor of the stuffing. Bon appétit!
