Ingredients
- 8 thin slices of meat (veal or beef)
- 200 grams of tomato puree
- 100 grams of mozzarella, sliced thinly or cubed
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 clove of garlic
- Dried oregano to taste
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- A few leaves of fresh basil
- 8 thin slices of cooked ham (optional, for a richer variant)
Preparation
- Lay the meat slices on a work surface and gently beat them with a meat mallet to make them even thinner.
- If you decide to use the ham, place a thin slice on each piece of meat.
- Place some mozzarella and a sprinkling of oregano on each slice.
- Roll up the meat slices, creating rolls, and secure them with toothpicks to maintain their shape.
- In a pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil and add the garlic.
- When the garlic is golden, remove it and place the rolls in the pan.
- Brown the rolls on all sides until they are golden.
- Pour the tomato puree over the rolls, add salt and pepper to taste, and a bit of hand-torn basil.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook over medium-low heat for about 15-20 minutes, adding water if necessary to prevent the sauce from drying out too much.
