Pizza Swirls

Pizza swirls are a tasty and fun appetizer, perfect for parties or as a snack. They are essentially mini pizza rolls that are sliced and baked in the oven. Below you will find the recipe to prepare them.

Ingredients

  • 300 g of pizza dough (you can use the ready-made one or make it yourself)
  • 150 g of tomato sauce
  • 200 g of grated mozzarella
  • 100 g of sliced salami (you can also use cooked or raw ham)
  • Oregano to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface until it is about 4-5 millimeters thick.
  3. Spread a uniform layer of tomato sauce on the dough, leaving a margin of about 1 cm along the edges.
  4. Distribute the grated mozzarella over the sauce, then lay the salami slices evenly.
  5. Sprinkle a bit of oregano and a pinch of salt over the entire surface, enough to enhance the flavors.
  6. Roll up the pizza dough from the long side, wrapping it onto itself and seal the edges by pressing lightly.
  7. Cut the roll into slices about 2-3 centimeters thick. You will obtain spirals that show the filling.
  8. Place the swirls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, spacing them a few centimeters apart from each other.
  9. Brush the surface of the swirls with a bit of extra virgin olive oil.
  10. Bake the swirls for about 15-20 minutes or until they are golden and crispy.
  11. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Pizza swirls are a true classic for an Italian aperitif and can be accompanied by a good glass of light red wine or a fresh beer. For a touch of color and freshness, you can add a few leaves of fresh basil on top of the swirls before serving them. Enjoy your meal!
