Stuffed Peppers with Meat and Sausage
17/11/2023Here is a classic Italian recipe for stuffed peppers with meat and sausage!
Ingredients
- 4 large peppers
- 200 g of ground meat
- 100 g of sausage
- 80 g of stale bread
- 50 ml of milk
- 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 clove of garlic
- Parsley to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Extra virgin olive oil
Preparation
- First, wash the peppers, cut the top off to create a “lid” and remove the internal seeds and white membranes.
- Soak the stale bread in milk until it softens, then squeeze it out.
- In a larger bowl, combine the ground meat and crumbled sausage.
- Add the soaked bread, the egg, finely chopped garlic, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
- Stuff the peppers with the meat mixture, pressing slightly to make the stuffing fit into all the spaces.
- Place the peppers in a lightly oiled baking dish and cover them with their “lids.”
- Drizzle the peppers with a stream of olive oil and add a little water to the dish to create humidity during baking.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 45 minutes or until the peppers are tender and the filling is well cooked.
Curiosity
Stuffed peppers are a very versatile dish that lends itself to numerous variations, both for the type of filling and for additional ingredients, such as olives, capers, or cheeses different from Parmesan. Moreover, they can be served both hot and cold as an appetizer or main course.
If you don’t have ground meat or sausage, you can also use other types of minced meat or even a vegetarian version with rice, vegetables, and spiced legumes.
