Peach Flautas
17/11/2023Peach flautas are a delicious sweet variant inspired by the classic flautas, usually stuffed with savory creams or sliced meats. Here is the recipe, enriched with an Italian touch by adding, for example, a bit of Amaretto to deepen the flavor of the peaches.
Ingredients
- 1 package of ready-to-use rectangular puff pastry
- 2 ripe peaches
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of Amaretto (optional)
- 1 egg yolk for brushing
- Powdered sugar (for garnish)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
- Peel the peaches and cut them into small pieces after removing the pit.
- In a small saucepan, cook the peaches over medium heat with the sugar. You can add some cornstarch dissolved in water if you desire a thicker consistency.
- Add the Amaretto and let the peach mixture cool.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into rectangular strips about 10 cm in length and 5 cm in width.
- Place a spoonful of the peach mixture in the center of each strip.
- Fold the longer edges of the puff pastry towards the center, wrapping the peach filling and forming the flauta.
- Seal the edges well, brush with beaten egg yolk to ensure they get a nice golden color during baking.
- Place the flautas on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy.
- Let cool and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Curiosity
Puff pastry is versatile and can be used for both savory and sweet recipes. In the sweet version, the combination with fruit is always a winner thanks to the contrast between the crispiness of the pastry and the softness of the cooked fruit.
If you prepare this recipe without any liquor, it will also be suitable for children or those who do not consume alcohol. As an alternative to Amaretto, you could use a bit of vanilla extract or the grated zest of a lemon to flavor the peaches.
