Ingredients

  • Smoked swordfish, 100 g
  • Rectangular puff pastry, 1 roll
  • Black sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon
  • White sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon
  • Watercress or other small leaf salad for garnish
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil, for brushing

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (392 °F) and prepare a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into rectangles of about 5x10 cm (2x4 inches). Place them on the prepared tray, leaving a bit of space between each one.
  3. Brush the pastry rectangles lightly with some extra virgin olive oil.
  4. Sprinkle the rectangles with black and white sesame seeds, and a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Bake the pastry sheets for about 10-15 minutes, or until they become golden and crispy.
  6. In the meantime, cut the smoked swordfish into strips the width of the pastry rectangles.
  7. Once baked, remove the pastry sheets from the oven and let them cool on a rack for a few minutes.
  8. When the pastry sheets are cool, complete each rectangle with a strip of swordfish and some watercress or salad for garnish.

Trivia

Smoked swordfish is a prized and flavorful ingredient. As it is smoked, it is already ready to eat, but paired with the crunchiness of the pastry and the savory touch of sesame, it becomes a truly delicious bite with great visual impact.

For the perfect pairing, you could serve these pastry sheets with a glass of dry and aromatic white wine, capable of enhancing the taste of the sea without overpowering it.
