17/11/2023Puff pastry sunflowers are delicious appetizers or savory snacks, very cute to look at and extremely simple to prepare. Here is the recipe to prepare puff pastry sunflowers.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
- Basil pesto (as needed)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- Grated cheese (to taste, for example parmesan or pecorino)
Preparation
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into squares of about 10x10 cm.
- In each square of puff pastry, place a teaspoon of pesto in the center.
- Cut from each corner of the square towards the center, stopping about 1 cm from the pesto, to create triangles that will remain attached to the center.
- Take the corner of each triangle and fold it towards the center, over the pesto, pressing lightly to make it stick. You will thus obtain a shape that resembles a sunflower.
- Transfer the sunflowers onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Beat the egg yolk and gently brush the sunflowers, this will help them to brown in the oven.
- Sprinkle a bit of grated cheese over the sunflowers to add flavor and crunchiness.
- Bake the sunflowers in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 15-20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Remember that you can vary the filling of the puff pastry sunflowers according to your tastes: you could use, for example, cooked ham and cheese, olive cream, or chopped dried tomatoes.
